Greg, Excellent blog ! I hadn't heard about the Leavey situation. Was it reported in the Detroit Newspapers ? If the facts you note are accurate, it's another example of "over-reaction" by a minority to a comment by a white person who did not intend it to be a "racist" comment.
ReplyDeleteI have said many times that this type of over-reaction to a "percieved" racist comment only serves to perpetuate and prolong any real, existing feelings of racism in society.
I can attest that there is much less "racism" in white society than some blacks apparently believe, and what racist feelings there are, are only stoked by incidents such as this. It's 2009, not 1969, and I think blacks have more to gain in society through an attitude of cultural "assimilation" rather than of one of rebellion and confrontation.
